Today, November 6th, 2007, the new companion book to Margaret Mitchell’s Gone with the Wind hits news stands. The book is titled Rhett Butler’s People and is written by award winning writer Donald McCaig. It’s the second book fully authorized by the Margaret Mitchell estate (the first was Alexandra Ripley’s Scarlett) since Mitchell’s untimely death on August 16, 1949. I was fortunate enough to travel to Atlanta, Georgia to attend the November 3rd worldwide launch of the book at the Margaret Mitchell House. From 6-9pm guests dined on oysters, caviar, BBQ bites, and red velvet cupcakes, sipped wine, beer, or Rhett Butler cocktails, mingled with fellow ‘Windies’ and Scarlettt & Rhett look-a-likes, watched Doug Lothes perform Gone with the Windin 20 minutes, and handed over the pre-released book to Donald McCaig himself to autograph. It was difficult not to escape to a well-lit area to read a couple pages of the much-anticipated book! Despite bad reviews, this fan is anxious to read the book and form her own opinion!
